This work is the seventh chapter of the Dream Sequence series, continuing an improvisational performance-theatre method for exploring the subconscious, where the process unfolds in real time. Eat, Rabbit gradually introduces a cruel metaphor for the essence of “growing up.” Under public gaze, the artist presents herself as a specimen, conducting an anatomy of the idea of “innocence.” When the final tear-bubble bursts, the audience leaves with a silent question:
Is the rabbit in your heart—once soft, whole, and naïve—still okay?
The performance moves from sweet, childlike interaction into escalating acts of violence, self-offering, and enforced swallowing, and finally arrives at a restrained mourning and a brief rebirth that still carries a trace of hope.
Process
I. Entrance / Setup
The artist enters carrying a silver metal case. She changes into a white nurse uniform and wears pink rabbit ears. Props are arranged: a laboratory test-tube rack and tubes, medical scissors, a comb, a glass plate, and a stemmed glass.
II. Sweet Trap
The artist shares chewing gum with the audience. Two participants are invited to share a single long candy strip. She loops rings over audience members and stamps/awards them medals. Participants apply cartoon nail stickers to the artist; she applies matching stickers to a rabbit plush toy.
III. Violent Cooking
Several bright red tomatoes are taken out. Wrapped in gauze, they are lifted and slammed onto the floor, splashing juice. The artist squeezes the gauze by hand, letting the juice drip into a stemmed glass. Another tomato is pierced; a participant is invited to spit chewed gum into it. The tomato is placed at the centre of the glass plate as the “main dish.”
IV. Self as Seasoning
The artist releases her long hair and slowly combs it. Using medical scissors, she cuts off strands of hair. She cuts off nails that carry the cartoon stickers. Hair and nails scatter over the tomatoes—body fragments as seasoning.
V. Eat, Rabbit
The artist tastes a sip of the tomato juice. She feeds the rabbit plush the juice, red liquid running over its fur. She cuts open the rabbit’s mouth with scissors, then stuffs a mixture of nails, hair, gum, and tomato into it.
VI. Mourning
Test tubes are taped to the artist’s face. Holding the rabbit, she sits on a pink chair. She strokes the rabbit and slowly removes the mixture from its mouth. She remains seated in stillness until tears fall and collect into the tubes.
VII. Tear Bubbles
Tears are mixed with bubble solution. The artist attempts to blow bubbles, failing at first. She adjusts her breathing and gently blows a complete bubble. She watches it float until it bursts.
